Espin Capital is a boutique private equity investment firm based in Johannesburg, South Africa. It was founded in December 2015 by Olwethu Mafanya, a seasoned investment banker and private equity transactor.

Espin Capital is a 100% black owned entity and 60% owned by the Tshezi Womens Investment Trust. With sustainability and growth being key focus areas of the firm’s investments, Espin Capital’s BEE credentials facilitate the seamless introduction of BEE policies at the shareholding and employment equity levels of its investee companies.

As a long term investor, Espin Capital seeks to establish long term, mutually beneficial relationships with its business partners. Espin Capital does not have any pressures to exit investments within predetermined time horizons and can hold investments indefinitely.


Mission

As a private equity firm, the mission of Espin Capital is to:

  • Become one of the market leaders in the private equity space in South Africa
  • Identify potential investment opportunities that are able to generate superior internal rates of return (IRR) of at least 20%
  • Invest significant minority to majority equity stakes in unlisted businesses that are established market leaders in their sectors which are cash generative, have good growth prospects, and have experienced management with proven operational track records
  • Assist the investee companies to improve their BEE credentials from shareholding and employment equity perspectives
  • Grow the profitability of the businesses over time by providing access to acquisition and growth capital, and access to highly experienced networks of executives with solid operational and business development capabilities
  • Provide a long-term, mutually beneficial partnership with no exit pressures or timelines
